Collaborated with the Presbytery of San Fernando to create a devotional series for Lent.
This project included a virtual experience hosted on both the Presbytery of San Fernando Valley (PSF) and Dea Studios's websites, social media campaigns featured on PSF and Dea Studios's Instagram channels, and a newsletter series that went out to readers daily during the Lent season. We featured visual artists, musicians, poets, and writers for the series. We created Dea Studios's graphics for the web series, Instagram posts and stories, and for the daily newsletter. We also curated practices that accompanied each day's devotion.
The collaborative nature of Lenten Gestures cannot be understated. Over 35 people offered their skills and talents to bring this project to life. Juan Sarmiento, the Executive Presbyter for the San Fernando Valley, first approached me about creating the 2021 series in 2020. Since the vision was to have a devotional series that included art and reflections, the first challenge came in figuring out how to find enough people to contribute to the project. Juan really wanted to include multiple voices in the project. To bring this idea into reality, I leaned heavily on the community I'd developed as a student at Fuller Seminary and as a faith leader in a growing network of faith communities. We were also excited to have members of the San Fernando Valley Presbytery contribute. The result was a beautiful blending of diverse communities.
I recall how excited people were when they received the invitation to participate. For many, this was the first opportunity they'd received to share their reflections with a broad community. At the end of the Lenten season I realized that this was precisely what Lenten Gestures had been about - connecting people to an ever expanding community of creative thinkers, writers, and artists. - Dea
"Dea, You did amazing work at coordinating Lenten Gestures. The reflections and art and other pieces were not only high quality but reflected a commitment to seize the shifting historical moment that we face. It was all done in a way that reflected real commitment with God’s people and God’s work.
Thank you so much for taking this project and carrying through with excellence."
